Tight It’s Katie Robinson’s 14th Birthday. She and best friend Tara are planning a special night out. Scott’s going to be there. All they need now is a little drink to get them in the mood… This is the story of one night in the lives of four young people. It’s a night packed with fun and games, love and loss. Tight explores the characters’ behaviour and alcohol use, and the potential consequences it has for them. In Tight Katie and Tara, Scott and Wesley are forced to examine their behaviour and relationships in the light of the nights’ events. The play is light, funny and fast-moving. It raises important issues without heavy-handedness or moralising. What does real friendship mean? “It was a fun play to watch but I also learned a lot.” Discussion and workshop activities are integrated into the action of the play, enabling students to engage immediately with the issues raised by the story and the characters’ experiences. Tight is performed to audiences of up to sixty students. During the interactive elements the actor / facilitators divide the audience in to smaller groups to ensure students are fully involved and engaged. “What a fantastic production! Staff were really impressed, and the young people can’t stop talking about it.” Tight was commissioned by Derbyshire Local Education Authority in partnership with Healthy Schools, and funded by the Derbyshire DAAT. Since 2003 Tight has been performed to approximately 25,000 young people in seven distinct productions across Derbyshire and Lincolnshire. “A beautiful piece of theatre. There’s so much in it.”
