4-Ever? A play addressing Sexual Health and Relationships for Y10 students
For Izzy, Year 10 is turning into a difficult and lonely year. Her love is unrequited and best friend Abi’s already got a much older boyfriend. Sensitive Ricky keeps his feelings very close to his chest. Izzy, Abi and Al are his best friends but his heart belongs to only one. Al isn’t into love. He is into healthy male urges. He loves sex and sees no reason why he shouldn’t get as much of it as he can. As far as Al is concerned, girls are only good for one thing, and that happens to be something he’s pretty good at. Abi, Izzy, Ricky and Al are all in Year 10. The four have been firm friends for years. The play follows the group through the first months of Year 10 and charts their experiences and the changes in their relationships as they mature, as their needs change, and as they begin to experience more of life away from their close friendship group. Can the friendships survive? “The play was entertaining and informative. It made you reflect on relationships and friendships.” 4-Ever? presents a de-stigmatising and holistic approach to sexual health. The play recognises the diversity of ethnicity, values, sexual orientation and experience of its complex audience. The plot explores how and where young people can access services, argues for young people’s right to choose (to say “No” as well as “Yes”) and includes detailed consideration of unsafe relationships and Sexually Transmitted Infections. “It was very entertaining and gave lots of useful points on how to look after ourselves.” 4-Ever? was commissioned by the Derbyshire County Primary Care Trust as part of its ongoing commitment to health education in schools. 320 performances to Year 10 audiences are scheduled in schools in Derbyshire and Derby City over the next 2 years. “It’s a play about love… about jealousy… about betrayal…”
