Interference “I had this weird feeling, like the world wasn’t quite right, and the next thing I knew I was on the floor and Dad was over me and people were staring and I was confused and I couldn’t remember anything and my head was hurting even worse and my shorts were all wet and I’d wet myself…” Sarah is diagnosed with Epilepsy in her early teens. It is a relief to know what has been causing her perplexing symptoms but the diagnosis is only the beginning of her family’s journey. Dad, Alan is over-protective and terrified of what could happen if he gives her too much independence, Sarah is not enthusiastic about a lifetime on anti-epilepsy drugs and is also battling with the change in other people’s attitudes, and Dad’s new partner Karen is caught in the middle… Interference was commissioned to assist epilepsy specialists in understanding and dealing with the specific needs and concerns of young people with epilepsy. The play has been performed to specialist audiences of paediatricians, paediatric neurologists and epilepsy nurses in England and Scotland.
