Storyrider

A boy who loves books… A book with a curse... There can only be one outcome…
Adventure!

Conceived as a project to promote the positive power of reading and literacy, inspired by workshops with pupils from Chesterfield primary schools and written especially for young audiences, Storyrider tells the amazing story of a young boy who becomes trapped in the stories contained in a mysterious and sinister book. He is saved by his love of reading. Through his deep knowledge of books and stories he understands how to defeat the enemies he encounters and escape!

Twelve young drama enthusiasts from Newbold Community School in Chesterfield took an entire week off their normal timetable to rehearse with Paul Whitfield alongside professional actors David Shimwell and Eve Robertson at Brief Candle Theatre.

Rehearsals culminated in performances at the Pomegranate Theatre, Chesterfield to capacity audiences of young people from across the region, many of whom were involved in the original workshops with Paul Whitfield. They were thrilled to see their ideas brought to life in this exciting and innovative collaboration.
